PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide printing paper capable of remarkably reducing white spaces on offset printing. SOLUTION: In a paper machine comprising a wire section, a press section, the first drying section, a coating section, the second drying section and a calender section, an air-jetting section is disposed between the first drying section and the coating section. A web is subjected to air jetting to remove about 10-500μm unstable matters placed on the surface of the web and in its surface layer by the non-contact type means, and subsequently coated with a surface- treating agent such as starch by the use of a pound type size process or a gate roll coater. Thus, the printing paper having <=9 wax picks (regulated by JIS P 8129) and having >10 white spaces, when 3,000 printing paper sheets each having a printed area of 420 mm×297 mm are printed with a Ronald printing machine, can be obtained.
