PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mechanically or thermally remove a surface hardened layer resultant from mechanical descaling and to produce a hot rolled strip of B-containing austenitic stainless steel free from remaining scale by means of a continuous line. SOLUTION: A hot rolled strip of austenitic stain less steel containing 0.6 to 2.0 wt.% B is mechanically descaled and then pickled continuously. Subsequently, both of the surface and the rear surface of the steel strip are ground by >=50μm, respectively, or are continuously annealed at 700 to 1100 deg.C and further pickled continuously. In the case where descaling is insufficient, descaling by grinding and descaling by annealing are combinedly used. In this case, grinding and annealing can be performed in no special order. Because of the absence of a surface hardened layer, the hot rolled strip of B-containing austenitic stainless steel, improved in bendability, can be obtained.
