The production of pure alpha and tertiary olefins, and possibly tertiary alkyl ethers, from an unsaturated hydrocarbon cut containing at least one alpha -olefin and a tertiary etherifiable olefin, involves:- (a) formation of a tertiary alkyl ether by contact of the hydrocarbon cut with at least one alcohol in the presence of an etherification catalyst in a reactor R1; (b) fractionation of the product from (a) in a zone C1 to obtain an organic fraction O, depleted in tertiary alkyl ether, and a fraction E1 enriched in tertiary alkylether; (c) decomposition of the tertiary alkyl ether in E1 in a reaction zone R2 containing a decomposition catalyst, giving a product P1 comprising an alcohol and a tertiary olefin; and (d) fractionation of P1 in a zone C5, producing a fraction B1 containing most of the tertiary olefin, a small amount of alcohol and some light ends, and a fraction A1 containing most of the alcohol, some non-decomposed ether and possibly some heavy ends. |
