PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain magnetic powder from deteriorating in magnetic properties by a method, wherein magnetic powder is composed of a metallic magnetic powder as a main component and wustite as an additive. SOLUTION: Magnetic powder is used for magnetic recording medium coated thereon. The coated recording medium is composed of a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer, which is mainly composed of a magnetic powder and resin binder and formed on the support. At this point, the magnetic powder is composed of a metallic magnetic powder and wustite. Moreover, it is preferable that magnetic powder be set smaller than 0.4 μm in grain size from the view point of improving the characteristics in a high-density region of the magnetic recording medium. It is preferable that the content of wustite in magnetic powder be set at 2 to 25 wt.%. By this setup, the magnetic powder of this constitution can be restrained from deteriorating in magnetic properties with the lapse of time. |
