摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image-pickup device to enable increase of a frame rate due to shortening of output period of one horizontal line by using an electric charge transfer device to shorten the output period, without changing a drive frequency and the electric charge transfer device, as a horizontal transfer register. SOLUTION: When the electric charge transfer device consists of a pair of electrodes of a first phase (ϕH1) and a second phase (ϕH2) which are alternately and repeatedly arranged at an upper part of a transfer channel in its transfer direction and is provided with electrode structure that the pair of electrodes of the first phase are wired to be driven independently, by sandwiching the pair of electrodes of the second phase, a complement two phase drive is performed by providing a DC voltage (ϕH2) with the pair of electrodes of the second phase. On the other hand, providing transfer clocksϕH1a andϕH1b of a reverse phase with each pair of electrodes of the first phase sandwiching the pair of electrodes of the second phase in a frame rate increasing operation mode. Then the electric charge is transferred by adding signal electric charge for two pixels in a horizontal direction by defining the phasesϕH1a,ϕH2,ϕH1b,ϕH2 as one cycle of horizontal transfer.
