The hood (5) has a base (2) designed to hold a container which emits fumes of odour during a boiling/cooking process. The hood is fitted with a filter and has a mounting (3,4) connecting the hood to the base. The hood casing has a height H several times less than its transverse dimension D. The upper wall (6) of the casing, is fixed to mounting (4) whose height can be adjusted. The casing has a lower wall (7) which forms a compartment containing an annular filter (27) which communicates with the exterior by means of an annular slot (28). There is also a central compartment (12), that has an outlet at the top of the casing, which supports: extraction fan (25) with its motor and control unit; central filter (24). Passages (21) ensure communication between a peripheral compartment (41) and the central compartment.
