PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the energy utilizing efficiency by increasing regenerative power on braking as much as possible, to improve the fuel efficiency of a hybrid electric vehicle, to reduce air pollution by exhaust gas and to lower the weight, size and cost of a battery by reducing the usage of a high-energy battery. SOLUTION: An electric vehicle, in which wheels are driven by using a DC power supply in combination of a chargeable and dischargeable high-energy battery 41 and a high-output battery 42 as its power source, or a hybrid electric vehicle, which uses the DC power supply and an internal combustion engine as its power source, constitutes a DC power supply by connecting the series circuit consisting of the high-output battery 42 and a current second quadrant chopper 43 parallel to the high-energy battery 41 as a main battery. When the current of the high-energy battery 41 exceeds a specified value, the chopper 43 is operated to discharge the high-output battery 42, thereby controlling the current of the high energy battery 41 so that it can becomes the specified value or lower. |
