PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible driving all light valves in the same direction without the necessity that only a sheet of light valve among three sheets of light valves is left/right inversion driven for other light valves. SOLUTION: P polarization light (signal light) to be color synthesized by a cross dichroic prism 9 among modulated light of G light emitted from the light valve 8G does not receive a reflective action until it is emitted from the prism 9. Since respective S polarization light (signal light) to be color synthesized by the prism 9 among modulated light of B light and R light respectively emitted from the light valves 8B, 8R are reflected respectively once by polarization separation parts of polarizing beam splitters 7B, 7R until they are emitted from the prism 9, and are reflected respectively again by dichroic films 9B, 9R in the prism 9, they receive respectively total twice of reflective actions. |
