PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the silver halide emulsion high in sensitivity and superior in graininess and the silver halide photographic sensitive material containing the emulsion. SOLUTION: The silver halide grains contained in the silver halide emulsion contains iodide ion in an amount of 5-20 mol% of the silver halide in the outer shell region near the surface of grain divided by 40% in volume, and flat silver halide grains having a diameter of project area of 0.08-0.5μm and an aspect ratio of 2-30 are occupying >=80% the sum of the project area to that of the total grains.
