摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel-cadmium storage battery in which a network with good conductivity is formed between negative electrode active materials and availability of negative electrode active materials is increased, by using negative electrode containing active material which is formed by heating cadmium oxide or cadmium hydroxide under reduced atmosphere and forming a thin layer of metallic cadmium on the surface. SOLUTION: Negative electrode active material powder is made, by heating cadmium oxide powder 1 or cadmium hydroxide powder at about 290 deg.C for about 10 seconds under reduced atmosphere and forming metallic cadmium 2 integrally at least a part of the surface of the cadmium oxide powder 1. Amount of metallic cadmium 2 is 0.01-6 wt.% to the total amount of cadmium in the negative electrode active material Ethylene glycol solution in which polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved is added to the negative electrode active material powder and they are kneaded. The kneaded material is coated on both sides of an iron, for example, punched hole plate which is plated with nickel, and they are dried and pressed to form a negative electrode plate. An electrode plate assembly is formed by putting a separator between the negative electrode plate and a positive electrode plate and by winding them, and is inserted into a battery case.
