PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable many people to observe a stereoscopic image without limiting a stereoscopic zone by forming an image as an erect image of nonmagnification on an observer-side surface, i.e., a 2nd optical means through a 1st optical means. SOLUTION: Pixels 103 are divided, line by line, into pixel groups 103(a) and 103(b) for the right eye and left eye, and arranged alternately by scanning lines. A polarizing plate 101(a) provided on a substrate 102(a) has a uniform axis of polarization whose polarizing direction is uniform over the entire surface and a polarizing plate 101(b) provided in front of an opposite substrate 102(b) is arranged having its axis of polarization at right angles to the polarizing plate 101(a). A gradient index lens array 104 is arranged in front of the polarizing plate 101(b) and further in front of it, striped phase difference plates 100(a) and 100(b) are provided alternately by scanning lines corresponding to the pixel group 103(a) for the right eye and the pixel group 103(b) for the left eye respectively. |
