PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liq. absorbing roll having stable liq. absorbing property and strength, capable of selectively regulating the concn. of toner particles in a liq. developer and capable of easily restoring function in a short time when the function is deteriorated by wear and contamination by the liq. developer. SOLUTION: A layer having elasticity and electric conductivity and a liq. absorbing layer are successively laminated on a roll shaft in the form of nearly concentric circles to obtain the objective liq. absorbing roll. The liq. absorbing layer is made of nonwoven fabric and at least the top layer is three- dimensionally intertwisted nonwoven fabric. The layer having elasticity and electric conductivity is formed by laminating a metallic layer on an elastic layer. Each of the layer having elasticity and electric conductivity and the roll shaft has a structure permeable to a component of a liq. developer and the roll shaft has a hollow structure from the part coated with the layer having elasticity and electric conductivity to at least one end. The nonwoven fabric of the liq. absorbing layer has a structure ensuring no difference in level for the peripheral surface of the roll.
