PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of signal abnormality due to thermal asperity with respect to a magneto-resistive effect type head. SOLUTION: This head is provided with a slider 33 floating while tilting at a floating angleαto a magnetic disk and a film like element structure part 34 containing a magneto-resistive effect element 43 formed on the air outflow end of this slider and for reproducing information. The end surface 51 of the film like element structure part 34 opposite to the floating surface of the slider 33 is retreated from the floating surface of the slider 33. The end surface 51 is provided with a step 52 between with the floating surface. The step 52 is provided with a size Y1 so as to position the end part of the magnetic-resistive effect element 43 facing to the end surface 51 to an upper side from a virtual surface 55 when the virtual surface 55 passing through the corner part 33 g of the air outflow end of the slider and parallel to the magnetic disk in the attitude tilting the magneto-resistive effect type head at the floating angleαto the magnetic disk is estimated.
