PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and an image forming method by which user's convenience is improved by reading images on both sides of a document without reversing the document. SOLUTION: In the image forming device, the image on the surface of the document is read by an image reading part 303 on the image forming device side and the image on the back surface of the document is read by an image reading part 550 on an automatic document feeder(ADF) 500 side without reversing the document, so that the high-speed reading of a double-sided document is realized. When the one-sided document and the double-sided document coexist, a user freely controls transfer paper corresponding to the document, so that the user can save trouble to arrange the image surface of the document set on the ADF 500 before copying or to classify the document by their kinds.
