PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately focus an image on a main object by detecting a line of sight position prior to a focal point detecting action, and controlling the image forming position of an objective lens. SOLUTION: The optical system of a line-of-sight detecting device is constituted of an illumination point light source 13, a half mirror 12, a light projecting/ receiving lens 11, a light splitter 9, a photoelectric converter 14, and an eyepiece 15. A focal point detecting device 6 selects one block nearest to the line of sight position within nine range finding visual fields of three blocks based on the line of sight detected result. The focal point state of a photographing lens is detected on three range finding visual fields, and one range finding visual field used for a focal point adjustment is selected. When the contrast of the image signal is lower than a prescribed value, the lens is driven, and the object having a sufficient contrast is detected by a searching action. Line-of-sight detection is surely made prior to focal point detection during the search action, and the range finding visual field range is reset each time. |
