PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling an electric car which enables one to continue to drive it even if the rotating direction data of an electric motor is lost by the failure of a detecting means of the rpm of the electric motor. SOLUTION: Pulse generators 51, 52 detect the rpm of electric motors 41, 42 driven by an inverter 3. The rotating directions of the electric motors 41, 42 are individually detected and based on these rotating directions, reference rotating direction signals are determined by a judging means 111. Corresponding to the reference rotating direction signals, the output of the judging means 111, and the rpm detected by the pulse generators 51, 52, the frequency and voltage of the inverter 3 are controlled. In the device so constituted, when failure detectors 161 to 164 detect the failure of the pulse generators 51, 52, the rotating direction signals of a failed pulse generator is isolated from the judging means 111. |
