PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically optimize the transfer efficiency at all times with a simple, inexpensive structure, by combining a transfer power source for constant-current control, which applies a voltage to a contact transfer means, and a grounding means, which grounds the contact transfer means via a conductive member. SOLUTION: A conductive roller 9 is disposed parallel with a transfer roller 5 and also firmly pressed to it with a specified pressure to be rotated following it. A high-voltage transformer 8, as a transfer power source, which applies a transfer voltage to the conductive shaft 6 of the transfer roller 5 is so composed as to exert the constant-current control. Also, the conductive roller 9 and a control resistor 10 compose the grounding means 11 which grounds the transfer roller 5. This causes a part of a constant current applied due to a change in the potential of the transfer roller 5 with an image pattern during transfer to flow to the grounded side via the grounding means 11, and makes it possible to automatically optimize transfer efficiency at all times. Here, it is preferable that the resistance of the grounding means 11 be not lower than 10 MΩbut not higher than 10 GΩ.
