PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely trace important fault information such as the number of times of generating faults and the fault generation time, to cancel tracing suppression in the case that fault generation is stopped for fixed time and to accurately provide conditions at the time of starting the tracing suppression again by suppressing fault contents to be traced in the case that the fault is repeatedly and continuously generated. SOLUTION: A fault tracing identification part 5 outputs the fault information to a tracing suppression part 6 in the case of judging that the fault generated in an ATM communication system is the fault to be traced. A tracing suppression control part 6 judges whether or not the fault is during the tracing suppression, and in the case that it is during the tracing suppression, traces the fault code, the number of times of generation and generation time of the generated fault without tracing all the fault information of the generated fault by controlling a monitoring timer 7. Thus, without filling up a tracing area even for the frequently generated fault, generation tendency is recognized and a fault generation cause is easily investigated.
