The respirator has a compressed air reservoir (21) with a connecting block (22) for the reservoir and a mouthpiece (23). The reservoir has its opening and closing controlled by relative rotation of the reservoir with respect to the block. The opening and closing controls for the block include a valve (31) cooperating with a seat (32) and drives (33,34) for converting a rotation of the reservoir to a displacement of the valve. The valve and its seat can be positioned axially.
