PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower electric resistance without deteriorating traveling durability and electrostatic magnetic characteristics by depositing carbon and/or graphite on the surface of magnetic powder. SOLUTION: The carbon and/or graphite is deposited on the surface of the magnetic powder of the magnetic recording medium formed by applying a magnetic coating material prepd. by dispersing the magnetic powder and a binder in a medium on a nonmagnetic base. The magnetic powder exhibits good electrical conductivity. This magnetic recording medium, therefore, exhibits the low electric resistance. The amt. of carbon to be deposited on the surface of the magnetic powder is preferably 0.2 to 10.0% of the weight of the magnetic powder. As a result, the magnetic recording medium which prevents electrification and is improved in various kinds of performance, such as electromagnetic conversion characteristics and durability, is obtd. If the magnetic powder is iron oxide-based magnetic powder, the deposition amt. of carbon is preferably 0.2 to 5.0% of the weight of the magnetic powder. |
