PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the digital video broadcast system that executes proper video recording processing by providing a total data capacity of digital video data sent/received to a reception destination. SOLUTION: A data capacity management section 13 manages a total data capacity of digital video data sent by a transmission section 12 for each program and provides the total data capacity for each program to a viewer as program information. On the other hand, in the case that a program broadcast by a broadcast station 10 is recorded, a video recording management section 24 of a digital video recorder 20 installed at the viewer selects a video recording medium that has an idle capacity larger the total data capacity provided as program information among pluralities of video recording media stored in a recording device 25 and smallest among the capacity of them and the digital video data received by a reception section 22 are recorded in the selected video recording medium.
