The seal for a vehicle door (P) comprises a flexible U shaped steel sealing band (3) which covers the edge (2) of the door (P). It has two flexible tabs (4) cut out of its side walls (3a) which grip the door edge. Before mounting, a thermoplastic sealing joint (5) is inserted between the flexible tabs to allow passage of the door edge. The door edge pushes the inserted joint into the bottom of the flexible band so that the tabs are free to tightly grip the door edge.
