The domestic refrigerator or freezer has the front access opening closable by means of a roller shutter sliding within the profile of the appliance. The appliance (1) has a casing (2) with an access opening at the front closed by a vertically sliding door (6) comprising a number of interlocking slats (7), some of which contain finger grips (11). The slats slide in channels inside the front opening and are contained within the casing at all times.
