Novel 2-[(3-substituted)-5-isoxazolylmethylamino]alkanamides, having formula (I), wherein: n is zero or an integer of 1 to 3; X is O, S or NH; each of R and R1, which are the same or different, is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, halogen, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkoxy or trifluoromethyl; each of R2, R5 and R6, which are the same or different, is hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; each of R3 and R4, which are the same or different, is hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl or R3 and R4 taken together with the adjacent carbon atom form a C3-C7 cycloalkyl ring; and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are active CNS agents.
