The finishing process for stretch fabrics, with natural and synthetic fibre components, has a basic treatment stage where the fabric (W) is stretched. Before the basic stage, a preceding stage (V) subjects the stretched fabric (W) to a temp. at least at the softening temp of the synthetic fibre portion, followed by abrupt cooling to a temp. below the working temp. for the material. Also claimed is an appts. with an initial stage (V) with an adjustable fabric spreader (3), and especially a circular spreader. It has ring jets (20) all round, to deliver a treatment medium (20) to the fabric (W).
