A numerical control unit which can accurately judge whether or not parameters for keeping the safety of a machine are read in the RAM properly. A first parameter set for a CPU (8) for CNC and a second parameter set for a CPU (2) for monitoring are stored in an SRAM (9) (the contents of the first and the second parameter set being the same). The first parameter set is loaded in a RAM (7) of the CPU (8) for CNC and the second parameter set is loaded in a RAM (1) of the CPU (2) for monitoring, both by an initialization process. Whether or not the first parameter set stored in the RAM (7) and the second parameter set stored in the RAM (1) agree with each other is judged by each of the CPU (8) for CNC and the CPU (2) for monitoring. Only when their agreement is confirmed, a system operation program is activated.
