The method for operating an IC engine is carried out, so that the mass flow (mshfm) supplied ti the suction pipe (6) is measured by a sensor allocated to the suction pipe (6). In addition the mass (msdk) across the throttle valve (8) is computed using a sensor allocated to the throttle valve. A correction value is determined from the measured and the computed mass flow. With the sensor assigned to the suction pipe (6), the air mass supplied to the suction pipe in the front of the throttle valve (8) is measured, and from this the mass flow 9mshfm) supplied to the suction pipe is determined. The angular setting (wdk) of the throttle valve is measured.
