Controller for turbocharger with adjustable nozzle

The controller has an exhaust gas turbine (13) with an exhaust gas inlet opening (13c) with an adjustable nozzle (18) having throughflow cross-section variable by adjusting its degree of opening. The turbine is driven by the gas entering via the nozzle. Engine load and idle state detectors (22;23,24) and a controller (20,18b) maintain the degree of nozzle opening in a range equal to or greater than a defined degree of opening when the load detector detects a load on the engine. The controller maintains the degree of nozzle opening in a range less than the defined degree of opening if no load is detected and the idle state is detected.
