<p>An inner ring 3, carrying a raceway 11, is retained on the inner end of a wheel hub shaft 2 and in axial abutment with a shoulder 24 by using an oscillating press 15 to plastically deform a cylindrical portion 8a on the shaft to form a caulked portion 9a which reduces in thickness from its base to its free end. Prior to deformation the cylindrical portion has an inner wall 13 tapering at an angle of about 20‹, and during deformation the inner ring 3 is held by a pressure piece 14. An outer ring (4, Fig.1) supports the hub shaft via bearing balls 5 and is attachable to the suspension system of a vehicle.</p> |
