The cutting tool comprises a substrate 12 of tungsten carbide, 5-7-6.3 % by weight cobalt and 0.3-0.5 % by weight chromium, the substrate having a coating 14 of tungsten carbide applied by physical vapour deposition (PVD). The substrate 12 may further include up to 0.1% by weight of tantalum and/or titanium and/or niobium. Also disclosed is a cutting tool comprising a substrate 20 of tungsten carbide and 5-7-6.3 % by weight cobalt onto which is brazed a tip 22 which has either been coated by tungsten carbide applied by PVD or comprises PVD tungsten carbide. In the former case the tip 22 may comprise tungsten carbide and in both cases the substrate may have at least a partial PVD tungsten carbide coating. |
