PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high hardness glassy alloy, capable of easily forming an amorphous solid of bulk shape, and also a high hardness tool, prepared by using this alloy as a base material, by providing a composition containing Fe, Co, and Ni as essential components and containing Zr, Nb, Ta, etc., and B and also regulating the temp. width of a supercooled solution region to a specific value or above. SOLUTION: This alloy has a composition containing one or more elements among Fe, Co, and Ni as essential components and also containing one or more elements among Zr, Ta, Hf, Mo, W, and Cr and B. Further, the temp. widthΔTx of a supercooled solution region, represented by equationΔTx=Tx- Tg (where Tx is initial crystallization temp. and Tg is glass transition point), is regulated to 20K. Owing to its high hardness, this high hardness metal-glass alloy can be used in this state for, e.g. an equipment member requiring high hardness. However, by applying one or more high hardness thin films 2 to the surface of a base material 1 formed by using the above high hardness metal- glass alloy, a high hardness tool 3, which is a formed part having such a wear resistance as is called super hardness, can be obtained.
