<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent clogging of a filter material which filters a molten metal selected from zinc, aluminum, copper, magnesium and their alloys due to deposition of the molten metal, and to increase the filtering property by subjecting the contact face of the filter with the molten metal to plating with a specified alloy of zinc and aluminum. SOLUTION: This filter material consists of a metal or ceramic material and is suitable to filter inclusions (impurities) in a molten metal selected from zinc, aluminum, copper, magnesium and their alloys. The surface of the filter material to be in contact with the molten metal is plated with an alloy comprising zinc and >=0.1 wt.% aluminum. Since the alloy comprising zinc and >=0.1 wt.% aluminum can form a solid solution with the molten metal, it gives good wettability with the molten metal. Therefore, such a problem that, while filtering a molten metal, the molten metal deposits on the filter to cause clogging can be prevented.</p> |
