PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the state of a wire constantly without stopping a wire saw so as to reduce the generation of severance of the wire without lowering production efficiency by detecting electrostatic capacity between the wire and a cylindrical conductor through which the wire made of conductive material passes. SOLUTION: An earthed shielding member 63 is provided on the outside of a guard member 62 of a wire diameter detecting device inside of which a wire 14 passes. Insulators are provided in the spaces separating a conductor 61, the guard member 62 and the shielding member 63, and dryers 82, 83 are provided above and below the conductor 61. When one side of a capacitor composed of the wire 14 and the conductor 61 lowered in capacity when the diameter of the wire 14 becomes small is earthed, and a sine wave signal is applied to the other side from an amplifier 731, amplitude of the sine wave signal changes according to the capacity of the capacitor. The amplitude voltage of the conductor 61 is therefore detected by an amplitude voltage detecting circuit 74 so as to be able to detect the diameter of the wire 14 to be the capacity of the capacitor composed of the conductor 61 and the wire 14. |
