PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for intoxicating a fluorocarboncontaining heat insulation material at a high efficiency of recovery of a fluorocarbon, at a low treatment cost, at high rate of decomposition of a fluorocarbon inexpensively, which process comprising feeding the heat insulation material into a melter, heat-decomposing the material to purge the fluorocarbon and perfectly decomposing the fluorocarbon under specified conditions in a combustion chamber provided in the latter stage of the melter. SOLUTION: The conditions for the perfect decomposition of a fluorocarbon include a combustion temperature of 800 deg.C or higher and a dwell time of 2 sec or longer. Refuses stored in a pit 1 are fed into a melter 3 through its feed port 4 by means of a crane 2, while coke, lime stone, etc., are fed thereinto through an inlet 5 for subsidiary materials. In the melter, the refuses are subjected to drying and preheating (about 300 deg.C), heat decomposition (300-1,000 deg.C)and combustion/melting (1,700-1,800 deg.C). After the refuses have been converted into a melt of metals and slag, the melt is withdrawn from the melter 3 and hydraulically crushed by quenching in a hydraulic crushing equipment 6. In a magnetic separator 7, the metals arc separated from the slag. The combustible gas produced in the melter 3 is burnt in a combustion chamber 9, and the heat is recovered with a waste heat boiler 10. |
