PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image recorder in which printing can be made to recording media of different thickness by providing means for carrying a recording medium through a gap with respect to a recording head, and means for moving the carrying means to vary the gap from the recording medium, thereby detecting the thickness of the recording medium and a fixed position of the carrying means. SOLUTION: The cam shaft 25 of a regulation mechanism 7 is turned by a thickness detection signal of a recording medium 2 and a carrying mechanism 3 is moved up and down by means of a cam 22. A recording mechanism 4 is provided with a microswitch for detecting the position of a frame being set to be detected when the gap is 1 mm and the recording mechanism 4 is normally stopped at that position and held in place. Consequently, the carrying mechanism 3 is elevated/lowered by an appropriate amount by the thickness signal of the recording medium 2 which is thereby set with an appropriate gap before arriving at the recording mechanism 4. According to the arrangement, the carrying mechanism 3 and the recording mechanism 4 are protected against being damaged through collision at the time of abnormality. |
