PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium excellent in whiteness and picture quality. SOLUTION: The thermal recording medium contains colorless or light-colored basic dyes, a coloration agent, and methylcellulose and/or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose which are provided on a support. The viscosity of an aqueous solution of 2% of the methylcellulose and/or the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose at 25 deg.C is at most 10 cSt. The methylcellulose and/or the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is added to a coating liquid for a thermal recording layer so as to be 1-10% at a ratio of solid content with respect to the basic dyes in the thermal recording layer. It is desirable that the particle size of both the basic dyes and the coloration agent is at most 1 μm. |
