PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain lithium manganate (LiMn2 O4 ), which is capable of giving a lithium secondary battery excellent in cycle characteristic and is useful as an active material with straight polarity, by previously pulverizing lithium hydroxide, mixing the powder with an Mn compound and firing the mixture at the time of obtaining the lithium manganate compound by mixing lithium hydroxide with the Mn compound and firing it. SOLUTION: Lithium hydroxide (LiOH or LiOH.H2 O) is previously pulverized to have preferably <=5 μm average particle diameter preferably by a dry method using such as a jet mill and a dry ball mill and after that, mixed with the Mn compound, preferably dimanganese trioxide and fired the mixture. As for the firing conditions, the firing is performed at 600-850 deg.C, preferably 700-800 deg.C, in the air for several hours to several tens hours and the fired material is slowly cooled at a temp. falling rate of <=10 deg.C/min, preferably <=2 deg.C/min. The resultant LiMn2 O4 is supplied for inexpensive lithium secondary battery with a high performance. |
