[Also in Division F2] A wooden structure comprises a wooden chord A and a wooden strut B having saw slots in which are received reinforcements D, F in the form of strips of sheet material, the reinforcement D in the strut B having a part projecting from the strut and entering the slot in the chord A alongside the reinforcing strip F which is wholly accommodated in the slot in the chord A, and nails or dowels N passing through the single and overlapped parts of the strips D, F from opposite sides of the structure. The strips may be of galvanized sheet metal and the nails may be of metal driven in without previous drilling. In a modification, the strips are of glass fibre and synthetic plastics material and the dowels may comprise glass fibre and synthetic plastics injected under pressure in previously drilled holes which may be each reinforced by a metal wire which is warmed before the injection of the plastics. Spaces in the slots not occupied by reinforcement strips may be filled with pitch, tar or synthetic plastics. In a modification, two struts connected to the chord A on opposite sides have a common reinforcement D extending between the two struts, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). |
