Fibres with a low tendency to pilling are made by melt-spinning a composition of polyethylene terephthalate having a relative viscosity of 1.2 to 2 and 0.2 to 2% by weight based on the polyethylene terephthalate of an organosilane compound of formula <FORM:1089865/C3/1> wherein M is an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, and n is 1 when M is an alkali metal or 2 when M is an alkaline earth metal, or a partial condensate of such an organosilicon compound in which less than 1.5 moles of water have been eliminated from the trihydroxysilyl group. Preferably the organosilicon compound has a particle size of less than 10m . The polyethylene terephthalate may also contain titanium dioxide delustrant.
