PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for a 3alkoxy-4-hydroxy-5nitrobenzaldehyde by which the progress of side reactions can be suppressed (i.e., in high product yield) to safely produce the 3alkoxy-4hydroxy-5nitrobenzaldehyde (i.e., at a low reactional temperature) in a method for producing 3,4dihydroxy5- nitrobenzaldehyde comprising dealkylating the 3-alkoxy-4hydroxy-5- nitrobenzaldehyde. SOLUTION: The dealkylating reaction is carried out in the presence of a nonhalogenated acid in a method for producing 3,4dihydroxy-5 nitrobenzaldehyde comprising dealkylating a 3-alkoxy-4hydroxy-5- nitrobenzaldehyde.
