The transmission system includes axially moving components e.g. to activate the clutch. These servo drives have coaxial elements, some axially movable and some axially fixed, meshing to generate axial thrust powdered by a rotating servo motor. The system is controlled by a central processor unit and has sensors to monitor its operation. The compact servo drive is mounted in or on the bell housing of the transmission. The meshing of the drive elements is via threaded coupling or via cam profiles.
