PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent the edge build-up at the time of coiling after electroplating and to easily produce an electroplated steel sheet having good quality at a low cost by subjecting the steel sheet to side trimming, then crushing both edges of the steel sheet by using masher rolls at a specific crushing rate and applying the electroplating thereon. SOLUTION: The steel sheet 11 is subjected to side trimming by trimming devices 13 before the electroplating of the steel sheet. Both edges 11b of the steel sheet 11 are then crushed by the ordinary masher rolls 14. At this time, the crushing rate Me% of the masher rolls 14 is set in a range satisfying the equation Me%>=2[Cw(αρ-100)+ρβ](ρTc)-1.5 (where Tc is the thicknessμm of the central part of the steel sheet, Cw is a plating quantity g/m<2>ρis the sp. gr. g/cm<3> of the plating metal,α,βare the constants determined from the regression equation). As a result, the edge build-up at the time of the coiling by the plating overcoating is effectively prevented.
