PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an unsaturated polyester easily producible and moldable, capable of exhibiting excellent heat resistance and useful as a heat-resistant molding material, etc., by co-using a specific polyhydric alcohol component, a polybasic acid component and anα,β-unsaturated polybasic acid (anhydride). SOLUTION: This unsaturated polyester having a high melting point of >=150 deg.C is obtained by co-using (A) a polyhydric alcohol component composed of diphenyl(4,4'-bishydroxyethyl ether) of the formula, (B) a polybasic acid component containing terephthalic acid (or its dimethyl ester) as an essential component and (C) anα,β-unsaturated polybasic acid (anhydride) such as (anhydrous) maleic acid or fumaric acid (preferably fumaric acid), and subjecting these components to polycondensation.
