PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a general-purpose adsorbent not causing the leaching of org. matter from raw material at the time of capturing org. matter in water, ensuring easy adsorption-filtration operation, particle size regulation and handling and having high utilizability by carrying a slightly water-soluble metal hydroxide or metal oxide on a porous carrier having a specified particle diameter. SOLUTION: A slightly water-soluble metal hydroxide or metal oxide is carried on a porous carrier having 20-200 mesh particle diameter to obtain the objective adsorbent having org. matter adsorbing function used in a process for analyzing org. matter such as liq. chromatography. The solubility of the metal hydroxide or metal oxide to water is preferably <=1.0×10<-2> g/l at pH3-9 and 20 deg.C. When the metal hydroxide is carried on the porous carrier, a metallic salt soln. is impregnated into the carrier and the metal hydroxide is deposited from the soln. by adjusting the pH of the soln.
