PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high selectivity with a thin and dense layer and to obtain high fracture strength as a whole membrane by using a hollow fiber membrane having selective permeability and each specified inner diameter, film thickness and porosity and forming the membrane to have a specified ultrafiltration coefft. for pure water and specified fracture strength. SOLUTION: A hollow fiber membrane having selective permeability suitable for blood treatment such as blood dialysis, especially suitable to remove harmful matters in a medium to high mol.wt. region is formed to have 100 to 300μm inner diameter, 15 to 60μm film thickness and 50 to 90 porosity. Further, the membrane is formed to have >=300 ml/mmHg.m<2> ultrafiltration coefft. for pure water and >=20 g fracture strength. A dense layer is formed at least on the inner surface of the membrane. As for the material of the membrane, polysulfone, polyacrylonitrile, polyamide synthetic polymers or cellulose derivs. can be used, and cellulose derivs. are preferable, and especially, acetylcellulose is preferable.
