The invention concerns a cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition comprising, in a physiologically acceptable medium, at least a purified natural or synthetic polypeptide, epidermis-specific, playing a part in the horny layer cell cohesion. The invention also concerns a cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition comprising a mixture of polypeptides derived from the proteolysis of the purified polypeptide, a cosmetic treatment method for strengthening the horny layer cell cohesion and a cosmetic treatment method for reducing the horny layer cell cohesion, thereby promoting exfoliation, the polypeptide being characterised in that it corresponds to the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 1.
