Keratin fibre treating agent and method

Keratin textile fibers can be shrinkproofed without compromise in hand by depositing a urethane prepolymer satisfying the following conditions and heat-treating the fiber so treated. (a) The reaction product of a polyol derived from a trihydric alcohol with an isocyanate compound. (b) The average functionality of the polyol in (a) as determined by quantitative <13>C NMR spectrometry is 2.2-3.0. (c) The average molecular weight of the polyol in (a) is 8,000-20,000. (d) The polyoxypropylene content of the polyol in (a) is 50-100%. (e) The terminal isocyanate groups have been blocked with a hydrogen sulfite.
