The member (1) is resistant to bending loads and is fixed at instrument-panel level, a chamber being formed between its vertical outside walls (2,3). These are joined together by ribs (12). At the impact points (F) for the occupant's knees chambers (8,9) are formed at the impact side, and where the ribs extend only as far as the chamber rear walls (11,11'). The walls (10,10') towards the impact side can be pressed inwards above a predetermined shock-load, absorbing energy in the process. The chambers can be enclosed between parallel walls running in the vehicle transverse direction.
|
