The invention refers to a variety of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) called Magnat, designed to be cultivated in all areas fit for the cultivation of lucerne. The plants of the "Magnat" variety are erect, average to tall, the shoots are 95-100 cm high, with short internodes at 100 cm high. The average number of internodes is 10.6, which leads to a rich foliage. The leaves have an obovoid shape, and are reasonably long and wide. The inflorescence is an ovoid-globular raceme with dark blue flowers. The seed is yellow and the mass of 1000 seeds is 2.2 g. The "Magnat" lucerne variety is characterized by a very good resistance through the winter, good resistance to drought and falling, and very good resistance to diseases. It has a large phenotypic uniformity, and a very good perennity and ecological plasticity. These characteristics are reflected in an average fodder production of over 20 tons of dry substance per hectare. The fodder given by the "Magnat" variety stands out by its good quality (19.57 percent gross protein, 1291 kcal net energy, 0.91 oats nutrition units). It also has a high seed production capacity.
