The frame of the sizing roller assembly (1) is fitted across a conveyor belt (8). The sizing roller has circular end plates (2) and horizontal spokes (3). The roller is rotated by an electric motor (5). The motor speed is controlled by an electronic controller (6). The roller rotates in the opposite direction from the conveyor belt (8). The height of the roller above the belt can be adjusted by a manually operated rack and pinion system. Products (7) below a predetermined height will pass under the roller. Larger products will be prevented from passing the roller. Clumps of products will be separated or retained. Variants of the roller has spokes which are wholly or partly sinusoidal, rather than being straight rods.
